Online Virtual Workshop (Date: December 2-3, 2022)
The Global Hakka Studies Consortium (GHAS) was established in Taiwan in December 2019 with the aim of promoting Hakka research among institutional members around the world. The establishment of GHAS is fully supported by the Hakka Affairs Committee of Taiwan, and the GHAS Secretariat is based at the Graduate School of Hakka Studies at the National Central University. Since its inception, GHAS has 11 members representing Taiwan, Japan, the United States, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.
The Fisrt GHAS Young Scholars Workshop was held on March 6-7, 2021, hosted by University of Malaya, Malaysia. The Second GHAS Young Scholars Workshop 2022 will be held on December 2-3. 2022. It will be hosted by the Chinese Department, Faculty of Humanities and Creative Industries, Petra Christian University, Surabaya-Indonesia. The theme of the workshop will focus on the “The Hakka Communities and Groups in Indonesia and Beyond: Local Representation in Globalization”.
It is hoped that young scholars from all over the world will discover or re-contact the culture of local Hakka through practical work in the context of globalization. The programme will involve lectures and sharing sessions by renown scholars in the field of Hakka Studies and presentations by workshop participants.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the workshop will be conducted in a hybrid platform with those in Taiwan to meet at the National Central University at Zhongli, while the rest of the participants will be joining the programme Online or virtual.
